I like to go into TripAdvisor for the cities for my tours to see where it rates on their lists, but the system remembers my previous queries so takes me directly to Recommendations for you, where my tour naturally pops up at the top because that is what I looked up the last time
Is there a way of clearing the query so that it looks afresh each time? (I appreciate that this is not a VoiceMap task, but others may know how to do this.)
It’s completely normal to see your own tours at the top! As you pointed out, TripAdvisor’s algorithm creates a “filter bubble” based on your browsing history, meaning it prioritises what you’ve looked at recently.
To see your tour’s actual ranking, try these steps:
Open an Incognito/Private Window: This is the fastest way to browse without your history or login influencing the results.
Check the “Sort By” Filter: Ensure the results are set to “Traveller Ranked.” This displays the objective list based on review quality, quantity, and recency, rather than “Recommended,” which is personalised for you.
Basically, “Recommended” is a reflection of your own activity, while “Traveller Ranked” is your true standing in a specific destination.
Remember, recent reviews and ratings are weighed highly in TripAdvisor’s algorithms. We’re working on ways to get more people to leave reviews after their experiences.
