VoiceMap's Monthly Top Performers: April 2025

Every month, we spotlight our best performers by sales and downloads in our publisher newsletter, but we thought it would be valuable to share them here on the forum too. Don’t worry - your May newsletter is still coming with all the usual insights!

Looking at April, our sales rankings stayed pretty consistent compared to March. The downloads rankings saw some exciting changes: Extranomical Tours jumped up four spots (mainly because of downloads on their private tours), while three familiar names re-entered the list: A History of Italy Podcast, Ben Barclay, and Lynn Momboisse.

Our new followers list welcomes back Jo Eckardt and Official London Theatre, plus two new entries: Greg Jorgensen and Steve Matthews.

We hope seeing these rankings gives you some inspiration for your own tours. Who knows, maybe you’ll be on next month’s list!

Here are some other lists I thought would be fun to see in the newsletter:

Top ten tours with the most lifetime ratings
Top ten tours with the highest ratings (maybe with a certain threshold—20 or so?)
Top ten tours with the most lifetime downloads
Top ten tours done virtually

Thanks @frankbures, I really like these suggestions, in the meantime, I’ve posted last week’s top 10 tours by direct sales and downloads here

Hello Helene

Thanks for the updates through the VoiceMap Forum.

Are there other metrics that you can add to your list of Monthly Top Performers? In looking at the Top 10 by sales and by downloads for example, Context Travel is constantly at the top, in a way that doesn’t provide the rest of us with much useful information, given that it is a big agency with loads of tours. Smaller producers are never going to be able to compete on these terms, and it makes for very discouraging reading every time I receive the email.

Is there a way of splitting off this type of company from other smaller ones and independent producers, so that it provides this category of loyal VoiceMap supporters some insight and profile? Or providing us with metrics on different types of tours, for example?

With regards, Annette

Hi @annette, thanks for bringing this up! You’re absolutely right that Context Travel operates differently as a larger agency who have already produced 85 VoiceMap tours. They are unique compared to the rest of the publishers on these lists though. Other than the institutions like Official London Theatre and The Apartheid Museum, who offer free tours, most publishers on the lists are smaller producers, who work independently.

I always enjoy sharing this list for exactly that reason, to see publishers with 3, 4, or 6 tours consistently make this list “alongside” publishers who are busy creating their 22nd, 24th, and 25th tours.

We’re often asked about the ingredients for the perfect tour, and looking at this list, it really comes down to three main elements: good storytelling, great destinations, and effective promotion. Ideally, you want all three working together.

I’d be keen to hear your suggestions! What kind of metrics or categories would be most helpful for you and other publishers? In the weekly top tours spotlight, for example, we’re now adding the tour price and duration as well to give you a better idea of tour prices.

Thanks Helene. I look forward to seeing other producers’ responses.

Any qualitative rather than quantitative listings would be good to see.

Regards, Annette
